The characters are humans[]

The main characters are not really animals, but human or humanoid.and we simply see them as animals for stylistic,

the characters in *Arthur* don’t really even acknowledge the fact that they aren’t human. The first book in the series the show was based on was called Arthur’s Nose, and in it, the fact that he’s an aardvark is directly relevant to the plot, since the story involves him being uncomfortable with his long nose. But that book was never adapted into the show. Instead, the show starts off with the second book in the series, Arthur’s Eyes.

However, this theory is full of problems.

In the episode with Ratburn's Misplaced Kindergarten Teacher sister, they had a Flash Back to a substitute teacher who mumbled everything. When Buster asks what she is saying, Arthur replies "Your ears are bigger than mine", which would seem to imply that Arthur is "aware" of Buster having rabbit ears.

In the episode in which the class visits a dinosaur fossil site, Mr. Ratburn explains that dinosaurs lived 60 million years before "upright mammals,In the episode where Buster comes back from vacation and The Singing Moose (Garfunkel) is referred to by Arthur. "Mom, there's a singing moose outside!",

one episode where George offends Buster and Arthur by insulting aardvarks and rabbits.the Season 21 episode Sue Ellen & The Last Page', Buster said "Not just a bunch of HAIRY ANIMALS glued to their cellphones
