The character N, from Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, is actually the Pokémon Zoroark. They both have long, spiky hair that reaches down their backs, but that is where the physical similarities end. Most of the evidence is from the fact that Zoroark is often seen shortly before or after meeting N. At one point in the games, a flashback is triggered in N, but not by interacting with him, as every other is; rather, by interacting with a Zoroark. At another point, the player spots a Zoroark running and gives chase, seeing it enter a room in N’s childhood mansion; but when you enter the room, there stands N, and Zoroark is nowhere to be seen. Zoroark does not need a “real” N, as although one of Zorua’s Pokédex entries states that “if a usually talkative child suddenly goes silent, that is a sign that they may have been replaced by Zorua.” Zorua cannot make noise, so they stay completely silent. However, as shown in several episodes of the Sun and Moon anime, Zoroark is capable of mimicking the speech of other Pokémon and even humans. One of Zoroark’s Pokédex entries states that “ This Pokémon’s illusionary powers have advanced to such a point that it can create illusions entirely from it’s own imagination. It can communicate via both speech and telepathy.” This also explains how N is able to speak to Pokémon, even ones that don’t have the power of telepathy, in his mind. Finally, when you turn the letter N 180 degrees clockwise, it becomes a Z.
